Please Donate to the Steve Martland Bursary Fund
Please help us raise £25,000 to establish the Steve Martland Bursary Fund and provide talented young composers from low income backgrounds with a life-changing opportunity.
The Sound and Music Summer School is currently the only residential school of its kind in the UK. It provides young composers with the unique opportunity to work alongside professional composers and musicians (such as David Horne, Kuljit Bhamra, Judith Weir and Orphy Robinson), developing their compositional skills in a wide range of genres and mediums.
The Steve Martland Bursary Fund offers support to our attendees from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the next six weeks, we will be highlighting how it has changed the lives of hundreds of young British composers, and in turn how it supports the future of new music in the UK.
Any donation, however small, will make a huge difference and go directly towards assisting young people in difficult financial circumstances to attend this transformational course. We hope you will join us in supporting the composers of tomorrow!
Over £14,000 has already been pledged, thanks to an exceptionally generous donation from Sally Groves made in memory of her husband, Dennis Marks. We are looking for others to join Sally and Sound and Music in making this a reality. Will you join us?
- The actual cost per pupil of attendance at the Summer School is £1,200, and the fee to parents is £450
- A donation of £225 creates a 50% bursary for one young composer for one year
- A donation of £450 creates a full bursary for one young composer for one year
“[The] Summer School has been so very valuable for my growth as a musician and for my happiness too. I cannot thank the kind people who donated to the Steve Martland Bursary Fund enough for their generosity.” Summer School Student 2017
